Insomniac Games' leadership has expressed interest in bringing more game adaptations to screens, with Ratchet and Clank being a prime candidate. Learn about the studio's vision following major leadership changes.
Insomniac Games Considers More Game-to-Screen Projects
Following CEO Ted Price's retirement announcement, Insomniac's leadership team has revealed their enthusiasm for expanding their game properties into film adaptations. Co-Studio Head Ryan Schneider discussed this vision during a recent Variety interview.
"We've previously explored this territory with the 2016 Ratchet and Clank film. While it was an early attempt, the franchise remains particularly close to our hearts," Schneider commented.
The original 2016 animated feature received mixed reception, but Insomniac's 2019 acquisition by Sony has created new opportunities. Sony's recent success with game adaptations like The Last of Us series bolsters confidence in future projects.
Sony's Growing Game Adaptation Pipeline
Sony Pictures has established a strong track record with game adaptations, including 2022's Uncharted and 2023's acclaimed The Last of Us series. Recent CES announcements revealed additional projects in development:
- The Last of Us Season 2 (HBO, April 2025)
- Until Dawn live-action film (April 2025)
- Ghost of Tsushima Legends anime (Crunchyroll, 2027)
- Helldivers and Horizon Zero Dawn feature films (TBA)
Leadership Transition at Insomniac Games
Studio founder Ted Price announced his retirement after 30 years at the helm. The visionary leader behind franchises like Spyro, Ratchet & Clank, and Marvel's Spider-man shared: "After three decades, I made the decision last year that it was time to pass the torch to our next generation of leaders."
Three long-time Insomniac veterans - Ryan Schneider, Chad Dezern, and Jen Huang - will jointly lead as Co-Studio Heads. Price expressed confidence about the transition: "Our continued success requires leaders deeply familiar with our culture, processes, and who have earned the team's trust."
