Palworld Remains Buy-to-Play: Developer Quashes F2P Rumors
Following reports of potential shifts to a free-to-play (F2P) or games-as-a-service (GaaS) model, Palworld developer Pocketpair has officially confirmed that the game will remain a buy-to-play title. A recent statement on Twitter (X) definitively stated, "We are not changing our game’s business model; it will remain buy-to-play and not F2P or GaaS."
This clarification follows an interview with ASCII Japan where Pocketpair explored various future possibilities for Palworld. The developer emphasized that while internal discussions about the game's long-term growth continue, a F2P/GaaS model is not currently viable. They cited the significant effort required to adapt the game and the understanding that such a shift isn't aligned with player preferences.
Pocketpair reassured fans of their commitment to delivering the best possible Palworld experience, apologizing for any anxiety caused by earlier reports. The developer clarified that the interview with ASCII Japan was conducted several months prior and that their current focus is on enhancing the game.
Future content updates are planned, including the possibility of skins and DLC to support ongoing development. These additions will be further discussed with the community as plans solidify.
Separately, a potential PS5 version of Palworld appeared on a preliminary list of titles for the upcoming Tokyo Game Show 2024 (TGS 2024). However, it's important to note that this list, published by the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA), is not considered definitive.
