Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet promises to offer players a significantly more expansive experience compared to the studio's previous titles. Inspired by the likes of Elden Ring, the developers aim to integrate similar open-world exploration mechanics into their new game. Journalist Ben Hanson has shared that the game will be set on a single vast planet, where players will delve into the mysteries of a long-lost civilization and explore a new religion central to the narrative. While it's unclear how closely the game will adhere to traditional open-world concepts, it's clear that the developers are moving away from the linear structures seen in their past projects.
This title marks the studio's first venture into a game where players will navigate the world solo, without companions or allies. Neil Druckmann, a key figure in the project, emphasized the studio's goal to evoke a profound sense of solitude in an uncharted universe while exploring themes of faith and religion in depth. The story unfolds in an alternate future on the planet Sempiria, which has been isolated from the rest of the galaxy for over 600 years. It is here that the protagonist, bounty hunter Jordan Moon, arrives to fulfill her contract.
Druckmann also highlighted that the development of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet drew inspiration from games like Half-Life 2 and Monkey Island. This suggests a shift towards a narrative style where players must actively piece together the story from scattered fragments, moving away from traditional narrative cues.
The game was announced at The Game Awards (TGA) 2024, but a release date has yet to be revealed. Players eager for more details on this intriguing new direction in gaming will have to stay tuned for further updates.
