The success of Helldivers 2 shows no signs of slowing down, as it has recently clinched two prestigious BAFTA Game Awards: Best Multiplayer and Best Music, out of five nominations. This marks the culmination of a highly successful awards season for Swedish developer Arrowhead, underscoring a remarkable year for the studio.

It's worth recalling that Helldivers 2 is not just an award-winning title but also the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game to date, having sold an astounding 12 million copies within its first 12 weeks. This record-setting achievement is unlikely to be surpassed by any other first-party Sony-developed game. Since its explosive launch, the game has navigated through significant events such as a reversal on PSN account requirements for Steam users, review-bombing campaigns, and a community often divided over the game's balance adjustments, whether they were nerfs or buffs.
Throughout these challenges, Arrowhead has faced the task of managing a larger and more diverse player base than ever before. Now, 14 months after Helldivers 2 debuted on PC and PlayStation 5, the question arises: How does Arrowhead view its journey so far? Has the studio begun to master the demanding nature of live-service gaming? And following their collaboration with Killzone, could a partnership with Warhammer 40,000 be on the horizon?
To delve deeper into these questions, IGN had the opportunity to speak with Alex Bolle, the production director of Helldivers 2, to gain further insights into Arrowhead's reflections and future plans.
